Box Zip Bag

The Box Zip Bag pattern is designed for intermediate beginners who are comfortable with basic stitches and techniques and who would like to learn a common method for inserting a zipper. This pattern assumes you can set up your sewing machine, sew a standard straight stitch, and maintain a relatively accurate seam allowance.

When finished, View A (toiletries bag) measures 10″ x 6.75″ and View B (dopp kit) measures 8″ x 4″ x 3.25″. Both bags are made from a heavier or home decor weight fabric and are interfaced & lined. Instructions included for optional pull tabs made from 1″ twill tape.

Recommended Fabric:

• Main fabric: lightweight canvas, cotton/linen canvas, twill, denim, home decor weight cotton, home decor weight sateen.
• For lining: quilting cotton, chambray, lightweight denim, lightweight laminated cotton.

Materials for View A:

• 3/8 yard main fabric
• 3/8 yard lining fabric
• 3/4 yard woven fusible interfacing (20″ – 22″ wide)
• one 12″ standard non-separating zipper (nylon or poly, will be cut to fit)
• optional: 1/4 yard of 1″ wide twill tape

Materials for View B:

• 1/3 yard main fabric
• 1/3 yard lining fabric
• 3/8 yard woven fusible interfacing (20″ – 22″ wide)
• one 12″ standard non-separating zipper (nylon or poly, will be cut to fit)
• optional: 1/4 yard of 1″ wide twill tape
