A beautiful flame mahogany dome top tea caddy with ornate brass ring handles and lined with velvet, made in England circa 1870 Tea was a very precious commodity throughout the 18th and 19th centuries and the purpose of a tea caddy was not just to preserve the and extend the life of the precious tea leaves, but also to enable the owner to lock away those aforementioned valuable tea leaves and therefore keep it away from the potential wandering hands of any staff. The caddy has acme marks and ware but I think that adds to its charm. 30.5cm / 12″ x 15cm / 6″ x 15.5cm / 6″
