Female nude, bronze, after Pierre Chenet workshop, Art Deco style, circa 1970 – France
Magnificent sculpture in which a female nude is represented in bronze with an ocher finish that has been achieved through a technique called Patin lacide, which consists of applying acid to the bronze, corroding the material, giving it that ocher finish, as if it were a patina. It follows an original model signed by Pierre Chenet, probably the work of his workshop. Pierre Chenet was a sculptor of French origin who stood out for his bronze animal sculptures. Precisely because of the originality of the theme, this piece stands out above the rest of his production. The sculpture depicts a naked woman, sitting with her legs crossed one over the other and resting one elbow on the knee on the same side. with the other hand he supports his leg, so that he remains stable. Presents a serene, thoughtful or introspective expression.
Art Deco style work. The bracelet that adorns her wrist is reminiscent of the characteristic jade bracelets common in the East. These bracelets are given to young women by their family as a kind of amulet to attract wealth and protection.
About the Art Deco style
Art Deco, short for the French term Arts Dcoratifs, and sometimes simply called Dco, is a style of visual arts, architecture, and product design, which first appeared in France in the 1910s (just before World War I) and flourished especially in the United States, but also in Europe, during the 1920s and 1930s. Art Deco combined modern styles with fine craftsmanship and rich materials. During its heyday, it represented luxury, glamour, exuberance and faith in social and technological progress. from its beginnings, Art Deco was influenced by the bold geometric forms of Cubism and the Vienna Secession; the bright colors of Fauvism and Russian ballets; the updated craftsmanship of furniture from the periods of Louis XVI and Louis Philippe I; and the exotic styles of China, Japan, India, Persia, ancient Egypt, and Mayan art. It featured rare and expensive materials, such as ebony and ivory, and exquisite craftsmanship.
