A small and engaging nautical whale composition, painted in a nave style in oil onto panel, by British artist Matt Rix. This painting features a charming, folk-art-style depiction of a narwhal swimming in the ocean, with a steamship sailing above the waves in the background. The narwhal, known as the unicorn of the sea, is painted in soft, muted beige tones, with a long, straight tusk extending from its head. British artist Matt Rix spent his childhood in South Africa and now lives with his family on a small holding in rural North Wales. Many of the subjects Rix paints are inspired by the animals he sees from day to day. Rix uses recycled materials including discarded paints, boards, frames and backing paper.
